Showing our Potential: MX-5 Cup in Texas

The Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup season opener is behind us. We were at Circuit of the Americas in Texas for the first two races of the year this past weekend. It felt great to be racing again after a long off-season, and Sick Sideways made sure my Harrison Contracting MX-5 was in great shape all weekend. A couple of setbacks kept us from getting the results we were aiming for, but I was able to run competitively and show how much potential we have for this season.

We started 17th in race one, and I made it all the way up to 9th. That success would have resulted in winning the Hard Charger Award, but we had to serve an unfortunate drive-through penalty. There were only a few laps left when I got back on track, so I wasn’t able to work my way through the field a second time and I crossed the line 21st.

After a tire change before race two, our whole team had to start from the back of the grid, but we all moved forward by 10 spots or more by the end of the race! I started 24th, but I put my head down and worked my way up to 15th by the time the checkered flag came out.

I wouldn’t have been able to make that much progress if it wasn’t for the outstanding work by the Sick Sideways team! They really helped me stay focused throughout the weekend. I had a great setup, which really boosted my confidence behind the wheel. It’s also great to have teammates on track who share the same goal of moving forward.

Be on the lookout: you might see me in some other cars this coming season! I’m working on additional plans for this year, which I hope to share with you soon. And in the meantime, I’ll be heading to Barber Motorsports Park from April 21-22 for the next round of MX-5 Cup. We’re sharing the track with IndyCar again, so it will be another big weekend for us!
